Chief Executive CY Leung says protesters’ violent, unlawful acts at the Legislative Council last night should be strongly condemned.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Leung said Hong Kong is an open and free society, and the Government, including the Police, have all along facilitated people to exercise their freedom of expression.
He urges people to use lawful and peaceful means to voice their opinions and not to obstruct the Legislative Council’s meetings in future.
Mr Leung said he understands people’s concerns on the Government’s policy regarding the use of land and pointed out that Hong Kong is facing a serious housing shortage.
The northeast New Territories development plan should not be unduly delayed because it could help ease the city’s housing problems, he added.
