Secretary for Development Paul Chan says he regrets that protesters attempted to enter the Legislative Council by force last night, but the Government will not withdraw its funding application to take forward the northeast New Territories new development project.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Chan said the Government has been maintaining close liaison with the affected residents and has tried to give an appropriate response to their requests, and will continue with such communications.
As the project is important to increasing housing supply in the longer term, the Government will continue to pursue the plan.
Mr Chan also noted that the people protesting at the Legislative Council are involved in various matters and are not all from the affected areas in the northeast New Territories.
