Police shelve protest march

The Police Force Council staff side will replace the public procession planned for this Sunday with a meeting at Police Headquarters, Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing says.

Speaking after meeting the staff side this afternoon, Mr Tang said they agreed to the move after he pledged to pursue the early implementation of the grade-structure review's recommendations.

He said he fully appreciates staff concern and frustration over the lack of progress with the grade-structure review and the acceptance of certain data in the 2009 pay trend survey.

At today's meeting he committed to discussing the staff side's concerns with the Government personally.

"My position is that when the administration submits its grade-structure review recommendation to the Executive Council in September-October this year, it should, as in previous review, include a recommendation for implementation of pay-related improvements to a retrospective date acceptable to the staff side."

Mr Tang said Sunday's meeting will discuss issues of staff concern.
