43 inmates receive academic certificates
*

Forty-three Pik Uk Correctional Institution inmates have been presented 102 certificates recognising their academic achievements.

They obtained 20 distinctions and credits in the Certificate of Education Examination and a host of other tests. They achieved a variety of qualifications relating to fields like information technology, accounting and cooking.

Presenting the certificates today, Yan Chai Hospital Board Vice-Chairman Professor Edwin Cheng praised the Correctional Services Department's efforts in seeking support from organisations and the public in rehabilitative services. He encouraged the inmates to further pursue their aspirations to facilitate their reintegration into the community and to build a bright future for themselves.

The maximum-security institution in Sai Kung has a capacity of 385 penal places for male young remands and male young prisoners. Young offenders under 21 are provided with half-day compulsory education programmes and half-day vocational training.
