Taiwanese merchant charged for deception
*
ICAC

A Taiwanese merchant was brought to Kowloon City Magistracy today for allegedly deceiving a total of $200,000 from a Mainlander. The case was adjourned until September 15 for transfer to District Court.

Hsu Jung-kuang, 52, who was arrested at the Lo Wu control point on Wednesday, faced five counts of procuring the making of an entry in a record of a bank by deception.

No plea was taken. Magistrate Tong Man remanded the defendant in Correctional Services Department's custody.

The charges alleged that between April 22 and May 19, Hsu, with a view to gaining for himself, had procured the making of five entries in a total sum of $200,000 in the record of a bank by deception.

Hsu was alleged to have falsely represented to a Mainlander that he had been arrested and detained at the Hong Kong International Airport and in need of the money to give to law-enforcement officers in return for their assistance in releasing him from legal custody.
