Task force to probe data leakage
*

A four-member task force will be formed to look into the data leakage case and submit a preliminary report in three days, Independent Police Complaints Council chairman Ronny Wong says.

Speaking after a special meeting today, Mr Wong said the council is very concerned that personal data of people who made complaints against the Police were leaked on the Internet. He apologised for the leakage and said the task force will study the cause of the problem and find out whether there is any defect in the system.

If the incident is found to be connected with any negligence on the part of any party, the council will take action to rectify the problem. He admitted that the incident has had an adverse effect on the council, adding every effort will be taken to preserve public confidence.

Commissioner of Police Dick Lee said the force's

technology crime unit will investigate the case. He added advice on information security will be provided if necessary.
