Police arrest 553 in Kowloon West crackdown
*

Police have arrested 186 men and 367 women aged 14 to 75 in an anti-crime operation in Kowloon West region that began on March 14.

 

The operation's aim was to curb activities that generate revenue for the triads.

 

The 553 people were arrested for offences involving contraband cigarettes or goods, illegal gambling, managing vice establishments, possession of dangerous drugs, pornographic articles, and breach of conditions of stay.

 

A total of 92,840 pornographic and pirated discs, $63,980 worth of suspected dangerous drugs, 3,650 copyright- infringing items and 421,120 dutiable cigarettes were also seized. In total, the seized goods are worth about $4 million.
