Crime fighters: Commissioner of Police Dick Lee (second left) joins the other guests at the competition's launch.

Students of all ages are welcome to enter the 'Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2006'. Winners will be awarded scholarships and have the chance to visit Australia as Hong Kong's fight crime ambassadors.

The competition was launched today to enhance youngsters' alertness of juvenile crimes and encourage them to help Police fight crime.

Participants will be evaluated on their capabilities through web games, essay writing, tests in leadership skills and interviews.

Commissioner of Police Dick Lee said Police will continue to work closely with Government departments and the community - including schools, parents and relevant organisations - to prevent and fight youth crime.

He said that the competition is a good example of Police-community cooperation and hoped it would strengthen young people's understanding of the consequences of drug abuse.

The biennial competition, being held for the 16th time, is organised by the Police with sponsorship from Hang Seng Bank and Qantas Airways Limited.

Entry forms widely available

With the theme "Anti-drug abuse", it is open to primary, secondary and tertiary students, and winners will be awarded scholarships and have the chance to visit Australia as Hong Kong's fight crime ambassadors.

Competition entry forms are available at Police Public Relations Branch, Police Community Relations Offices, Junior Police Call clubs, District Offices and Hang Seng Bank branches (excluding offices at MTR stations and the Lantau Airport Railway Station).

The deadline for applications is April 24.

For enquiries, please contact the Police Public Relations Branch on 2860 6143 or visit the competition website.
