Taxi trade urged to stay calm
*

The Transport Department has urged the taxi trade to stay calm and express views in a peaceful manner, adding another meeting with New Territories taxi trade associations will be held December 9.

In response to possible actions by the taxi trade to block traffic, the department said the Government has maintained close communication with it.

The Legislative Council's Transport Panel will discuss the fare adjustment application of the New Territories taxi trade on December 11, followed by the advancement of the Transport Advisory Committee meeting originally scheduled for the end of December.

After lawmakers and the committee have been consulted, the application will be submitted to the Chief Executive in Council for approval.

There are established channels for the Government to consult the trade and the door to communication is always open, the department said.

Apart from taxi trade conferences being held regularly to listen to the views of the urban, New Territories and Lantau taxi sectors, the department also welcomes feedback and suggestions from individual taxi groups.
