Telecom submarine cable to be laid
*
Lands Department

The Lands Department will allow Tata Communications (HK) to lay part of its intra-Asia telecommunications submarine cable system in Hong Kong waters.

The 40km section will be laid within two hectares of foreshore and seabed off Deep Water Bay extending to the eastern boundary of Hong Kong waters.

The works include the installation of the optical fibre submarine cable system by simultaneous plough-burial and jetting operations, which will bury the cable in a narrow trench, and will begin in March for completion by April.

The cable will provide telecommunications services to East Asian countries and regions.

A notice on the extent of the area affected was gazetted today, and is posted near the site with its related plan. Anyone with an interest in the foreshore and seabed can write to the Director of Lands by February 19.
