*
Transport Department

The Transport Department awarded a $32.5 million contract to PCCW-HKT Telephone today to offer telecommunication services for the area traffic control system for Kowloon, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin and Tseung Kwan O.

Telecommunication network will be provided to connect 200 traffic signal controllers to the traffic control centre in central Kowloon. The contract also comprises the subsequent leasing of the telecommunication services for five years.

Work began last month with a target for commissioning in May 2011. Delcan International Corporation has been appointed to complete the design and supervise construction.
