Housing Authority members agree that once legal proceedings are over, the Ad Hoc Committee on Review of Domestic Rent Policy should consult the public on its initial findings on an alternative rent adjustment mechanism as fast as possible.
They share the view that the Judicial Review cases have underlined the importance of identifying a mechanism that is more viable and helps promote the long-term sustainability of the public rental-housing programme.
The authority and its Subsidised Housing Committee were briefed today on the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which allowed the appeals lodged by the authority.
At the meeting, members discussed the possibility of introducing suitable relief measures, but were informed of the legal advice that given the possible appeals by the Judicial Review applicants, it is not appropriate to comment publicly on this issue, lest the authority's position would be prejudiced in any possible legal proceedings that may arise in future.
