Proprietary Chinese medicine recalled

Shenyi Qian Lie Hui Chun Capsule
Total recall: Shenyi Qian Lie Hui Chun Capsule has been recalled for containing Aristolochic acid.

Consumers are advised not to buy or take a proprietary Chinese medicine called Shenyi Qian Lie Hui Chun Capsule which contains Aristolochic acid. Prolonged and excessive use of herbs containing the acid may cause kidney failure and cancer of the urinary tract.

 

Sale and importation of Chinese herbs and related products containing the acid is prohibited. The Department of Health has instructed the importer of the product, Shun Tat Hong, to immediately recall the products and surrender them.

 

People who have purchased it are advised to stop using it, dispose of the product or surrender it to the Pharmaceutical Service of the department on 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours. They can call the importer's hotline at 2535 9986 for matters related to the product's recall. For enquiries, call the department's hotline on 2319 5119 during office hours.
