Divestment of housing facilities legal
*

The Housing Authority says all steps taken in the divestment of its 180 retail and car parking facilities are legally sound.

In considering the proposal for the divestment, the authority has studied whether it is within its power to divest itself of the facilities as a preliminary issue. It has sought advice from both local and international legal counsel on its power to divest.

The legal opinion obtained is that the proposed divestment makes proper use of the authority's statutory powers, as set out in the Housing Ordinance, to divest itself of the retail and car parking facilities.
