Thirty-four more people in 14 groups reported they were feeling unwell after having meals at a Mong Kok food outlet last week, bringing the total number of affected people to 136, the Centre for Health Protection says.

The patients, 49 men and 87 women aged 15 to 73, developed fever and gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. Most got sick 10 to 20 hours after having meals at the noodle shop between November 20 and 28.

Of them, 94 sought medical treatment from private doctors, outpatient clinics, and hospitals. Two patients were admitted to a private hospital and were later discharged.

The centre said laboratory tests on a stool sample of one of the patients yield a positive result for the marine bacterium vibrio parahemolyticus.

The usual sources of food poisoning by such agents include inadequately cooked marine products, salted food or other food cross-contaminated by seafood.
