Police arrested 209 people for refusing to leave roads during its clearance of occupied roads in Admiralty today.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheung Tak-keung said that after bailiffs enforced the court injunction this morning, Police allowed 30 minutes for protesters to leave occupied areas, which were then cordoned off at 2.20pm.
The 909 people who left afterwards by themselves were asked to present their identity card for record, as Police might pursue criminal liability against them later.
At around 4.25pm, Police started to arrest 209 people who refused to leave despite repeated warnings. They were arrested for unlawful assembly and obstructing police officers.
On the occupied roads in Causeway Bay, Mr Cheung said Police will remove obstacles and reopen them at an appropriate time. People should not gather at the occupied area, and stay away from radicals and troublemakers, he said.
Police will boost patrols in Admiralty to prevent radicals from trying to block roads again, and will take resolute actions against such illegal actions.
He thanked the public for its support towards the Police’s work to reopen roads, and hoped people will continue to support the maintenance of the rule of law.
