Don't storm gov't buildings: Police

November 30, 2014

Police have warned protesters not to charge police cordons or block government buildings.

Police Public Relations Branch Senior Superintendent Kong Man-keung made the warning today, saying officers will take resolute enforcement action if protesters become unruly.

Police noted some student groups have asked people to gather in Admiralty tonight, bringing helmets, goggles, masks and umbrellas, to escalate their actions by blocking the Central Government Offices.

Mr Kong said the assembly in Admiralty is unlawful and disrupts public order. He expressed regret that some student groups continue to incite people to break the law.

Speaking on the situation in Mong Kok, Mr Kong said a large number of protesters have gathered on Sai Yeung Choi Street South, Shantung Street and streets nearby and blocked the roads every night since November 28.

They scattered around the area, creating chaos, provoking and throwing hard objects at Police and charged cordons. Police took action to stop the unlawful acts.

Forty-two people have been arrested in Mong Kok since November 28, for offences including unlawful assembly, assaulting and obstructing police, possessing weapons, and disorderly conduct.

Eight officers have been injured.
