The Police insisted today that they are following established procedures in handling the complaint against seven officers who allegedly assaulted a protester, and are not downgrading the complaint.
Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui told a press conference that suggestions the criminal investigation is being downgraded to an internal investigation are wrong, and show a lack of understanding of the complaint procedure.
Mr Hui stressed that the Complaints Against Police Office is experienced in dealing with criminal investigations and its officers have undergone relevant training and have substantial skills, knowledge and experience. He added that they are competent and duty-bound to handle general and criminal complaints.
In a related development, police arrested a 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman yesterday for throwing glass bottles onto Nathan Road on multiple occasions.
Mr Hui warned that throwing objects from buildings is a serious offence and can easily cause casualties.
