Motorists reminded to follow traffic rules

October 29, 2014

Motorists ignoring temporary traffic control measures, traffic signs and road markings in protest-affected areas are in breach of the law and undermine road safety.

The Transport Department said today that currently only franchised buses are allowed to make a left turn from Central-bound Gloucester Road onto inner Gloucester Road via a temporary access near the old Wan Chai Police Station from 7am to 10pm, while other vehicles must travel via O'Brien Road and make a left turn from Gloucester Road to go to inner Gloucester Road.

The department found that some motorists still drive onto inner Gloucester Road through the temporary access without paying heed to the traffic signs showing "franchised buses only" erected at the road section.

Diving without paying heed to traffic control measures may cause serious traffic accidents, the department said, calling on the public to abide by rules.

A total of 225 bus routes are still affected by the protests with eight bus routes suspended and 217 bus routes diverted, and 20 green minibus routes are still diverted, suspended or have their service adjusted.
