Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man signed a Memorandum of Understanding on health co-operation in London today.

Witnessed by Chief Executive CY Leung and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Dr Ko signed the accord with British Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health Jane Ellison.

Dr Ko said Hong Kong and the UK are facing the challenges of providing healthcare to their residents in the context of an ageing population and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

He added that the accord provides a framework for the two places to share expertise and strengthen mutual co-operation, which will be beneficial to Hong Kong in developing its health system to cope with changes in society and public needs.

Under the agreement, the two sides will facilitate co-operation and exchange of information and views in the areas of primary care delivery models, non-communicable diseases, use of technology in healthcare, design and development of new hospitals, redevelopment of existing hospitals, experience sharing on traditional medicine regulations, regulatory mechanisms relating to medicinal products and devices, antimicrobial resistance, and infectious disease prevention and control.

Both sides will also facilitate research and experience sharing, healthcare professionals' exchanges and visits, organising joint conferences, and public organisation communication and collaboration.
