The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring four newly reported Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Korea and eight cases in Saudi Arabia.
In Korea, three patients are at Samsung Medical Center and one is in Good Morning Hospital. All four had been in contact with confirmed MERS patients.
The eight Saudi cases involve seven men and one woman, aged 29 to 72. One patient has a history of frequent contact with camels and sheep, as well as consuming their raw milk. Two other patients had contact with previously confirmed patients.
To date, Korea has reported 125 MERS cases. Another case was exported from Korea to the Mainland.
In addition to the laboratory-confirmed cases in Korea, 1,163 cases have been reported to the World Health Organisation globally, including at least 444 deaths.
The centre reminds people to avoid non-essential visits to healthcare facilities.
It will maintain close communication with the WHO and relevant health authorities.
