More Taiwan egg imports banned

(December 29, 2014)

The Centre for Food Safety has banned egg imports from Yilan County in Taiwan due to an avian influenza outbreak.

The decision was made today after the World Organisation for Animal Health announced the outbreak.

Egg imports from Penghu County and Hualien County have been banned since November 2012 and August 2013.

Hong Kong does not import live poultry or poultry meat from Taiwan, but a small quantity of poultry eggs are imported.

The centre will monitor the situation.
