Miyazaki poultry banned

(December 16, 2014)

The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from Japan’s Miyazaki prefecture with immediate effect.

The ban was implemented after Japan announced the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the area.

The centre has contacted Japanese authorities on the outbreak and will closely monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.

More than 4,600 tonnes of frozen and chilled poultry meat and 17.7 million poultry eggs were imported from Japan from January to October.
