Bird flu patient visited wet market

(December 29, 2014)

The Centre for Health Protection has learned the woman confirmed to have H7N9 avian influenza, the first confirmed human case of bird flu in Hong Kong this winter, had visited a wet market in Shenzhen.

The centre today reported the woman and her two friends visited a wet market in Bao'an, but did not purchase or have contact with live chickens sold there. The two friends have no symptoms.

Investigations also revealed that the patient had consulted two private doctors practising in the same clinic on December 19 and 23.

The centre has reached one of the doctors, while the other is now out of town. The clinic staff have no symptoms and are under medical surveillance.

Tracing of the relevant clients who attended the clinic at the same time as the patient is under way.

The patient also underwent a chest X-ray examination in a medical laboratory centre on December 23.

Investigations are ongoing.
