Veneto poultry banned

(December 17, 2014)

The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from Italy’s Veneto region.

The ban follows the announcement by the World Organisation for Animal Health of outbreaks of H5N8 avian influenza in the region.

The centre has contacted Italian authorities and will monitor developments.

About 2,900 tonnes of frozen poultry meat were imported from Italy in the first 10 months of this year.
