Chief Secretary Carrie Lam made a final appeal to pan-democratic legislators to change their mind and support the Government’s reform package today.
The proposal on electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017 will be tabled to the Legislative Council on June 17.
Speaking to the media today, Mrs Lam urged legislators to take into account the broad and long-term interest of Hong Kong.
“There are still a few days to go. I hope that they would seriously consider the various factors and do what is right and what is good for Hong Kong,” she said.
Mrs Lam added that it is indeed a great pity not to be able to deliver one person, one vote for the 5 million eligible voters in Hong Kong.
However, she gave assurances the Government will continue to press ahead with economic development and livelihood issues, regardless of the voting outcome.
