The proposal on electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017 will be tabled at the Legislative Council on June 17, the Government announced today.
The package will be the same as that broached on April 22.
Speaking to the media today, Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam noted there is a very slim chance to have the proposal passed two weeks later in accordance with what most legislators have publicly stated about their position.
However, he said the Government will not give up, adding Chief Secretary Carrie Lam and he will keep urging legislators to support the plan.
