Bus parade promotes reform

April 25, 2015

Reaching out

Reaching out:  Mrs Lam (front) and other officials wave to spectators on board an open-top double-decker and appeal to the community to support the Government's reform package.

Officials took part in a bus parade through various districts to promote the Government's political reform package today.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen and Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam, together with about 30 politically-appointed officials, took part in the parade.

An open-top double-decker decorated with "2017: Make it happen!" banners set off from Central and travelled through districts including Kennedy Town, Lok Fu, Tai Wai, Sha Tin and Tai Po.

"There are about two months to go before the proposals are put to vote in the Legislative Council. We will take every opportunity to reach out to the public, explain the proposals to them and win their support," Mrs Lam said.

"I call on the general public to support the Government's proposals and urge LegCo members to shoulder their responsibilities to pass the proposals in LegCo so that Hong Kong's democratic development can continue to move forward," she added.

In the coming weeks, officials will continue to reach out to people from all walks of life through various channels to solicit their support for the proposals.
