Chief Executive CY Leung today called for rational discussion on the Government's universal suffrage proposals and criticised actions aimed at disrupting promotional events.
Speaking to reporters before this morning's Executive Council meeting, Mr Leung said acts that intentionally obstruct direct contact between the Government and the public endangers people's safety and damages social order.
He said the Government wishes to explain its proposals to the people of Hong Kong and get their feedback through the promotional activities, so officials will continue reaching out to the community.
Mr Leung noted that Hong Kong is an open society that enjoys freedom of speech, adding that those who oppose the Government's reform package are welcome to express their opinion in a lawful and peaceful manner.
