Chief Executive CY Leung has called on the community to focus discussions on the Government’s proposal for electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017.
Speaking to reporters in Kuala Lumpur today, Mr Leung said actions to disrupt promotional events attended by officials will not help achieve universal suffrage.
He stressed that such actions can only cause a disturbance to people’s lives and to public order.
Mr Leung pointed out that the nominating committee is provided for in the Basic Law and those who oppose the Government’s proposal should fully explain their reasons.
The Chief Executive today also expressed his condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Nepal, adding that the Government will help through the Disaster Relief Fund.
