CE Office denies selective interviews

October 12, 2014

In response to press criticisms that the Chief Executive gave a selective interview to avoid being questioned by the media, the Chief Executive's Office said in a statement this evening that the accusations are untrue and unfounded.

The Hong Kong Journalists Association, Next Media Union, RTHK Programme Staff Union and Ming Pao Staff Association today issued a statement objecting to a television interview given by CY Leung, during which he spoke about the Occupy Central movement.

It is in fact, standing practice for the Chief Executive and Government officials to conduct interviews with individual media on various issues, the statement said.

It stressed that since the start of the Occupy Central movement, the Government, having regard for practical needs, delivered messages and responses on the handling of the protests using various channels, including press conferences, media standups, press releases, video statements and media interviews.
