Chief Executive CY Leung says the National People’s Congress Standing Committee will soon make a decision on his report on constitutional reform, taking its development to the next stage.
Mr Leung spoke to reporters ahead of an Executive Council meeting today. He called on people to work with the Central Government to reach a consensus on universal suffrage to elect the Chief Executive in 2017.
It would be a great step forward, to allow more than 5 million eligible voters to elect Hong Kong’s Chief Executive for the first time in history, he said.
He added that the Hong Kong Government has been working hard to forge a consensus within society and also with the Central Government, and its efforts will continue.
