Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam believes the Chief Executive will outline the major views and sentiments of the community in his report on constitutional reform, which will be submitted to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee to enable it to make an informed decision.
Mr Tam told reporters today that the Chief Executive’s report will be based on the report compiled by the Task Force on Constitutional Development, and while it is his choice to include or otherwise the latest sentiments of the community after the expiry of the consultation period on May 3, he is optimistic that there is room for the Chief Executive to do so.
He said the task force will submit its report to the Chief Executive soon and it is expected he will be able to submit his report to the Standing Committee next week.
The contents of both reports will be released to the public, and the Government is making arrangements to brief lawmakers on the reports’ content on Tuesday.
About 130,000 written submissions received during the consultation period will be included in the task force’s report, he added.
