Reform talks can narrow differences

(May 13, 2014)

Pan-democratic lawmakers should embrace the chance to discuss constitutional development with Central Government officials to narrow their differences, Acting Chief Executive Carrie Lam says.

Speaking before this morning's Executive Council meeting, Mrs Lam was referring to Central Government Liaison Office in Hong Kong Director Zhang Xiaoming’s invitation to meet with pan-democrats.

She added the Government has been creating opportunities for lawmakers and the Central Government to exchange views, including earlier breakfast meetings and a Shanghai visit.

She reiterated that any proposal on constitutional development should conform to requirements set out in the Basic Law and the National People’s Congress decisions.
