36K reform suggestions received

(April 29, 2014)

Acting Chief Executive Carrie Lam says over 190 constitutional reform consultation activities have been held so far, and 36,000 written submissions have been received.

Speaking to the media before an Executive Council meeting today, Mrs Lam said the next step is to consider the views collected and prepare a comprehensive report for the Chief Executive.

She noted the public have clearly voiced their wish to have universal suffrage for the 2017 Chief Executive election, and have attached importance to working according to the Basic Law and National People’s Congress Standing Committee decisions.

The consultation period will end in the coming days, after which the Government will prepare a report for the Chief Executive. He will then submit the report to the committee to launch the first step of constitutional reform procedures, she said.
