Police to launch safe-driving campaign
*
Hong Kong Police

Police will launch a two-week citywide campaign tomorrow on the safe driving of trucks and public-service vehicles.

In the first week, Police will distribute anti-speeding leaflets to drivers and the public. People will be encouraged to report undesirable driving behaviour to the Transport Advisory Committee on 2889 9999, or dial the 24-hour Police transport hotline, 2754 7668.

In the second week, Police will take stringent enforcement action against traffic offences, including speeding, careless driving and failure to comply with traffic signals.

According to Police figures, 5,629 people were killed and injured in traffic accidents from January to April, down 1% on the same period last year. The accidents were mainly the result of driving inattentively, tailgating, losing control of vehicles and changing lanes carelessly.
