Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested 16 people in an ongoing anti-counterfeiting operation, seizing 4,500 fake items worth more than $1 million.

The two-week operation started on April 20. Officers have raided 21 retail shops and five storage premises so far, arresting nine men and seven women, aged 24 to 49, including shopkeepers and sales staff.

The items seized include mobile phones and accessories, cosmetics, leather goods, clothing and watches.

The department will continue its inspections at popular shopping venues during the Labour Day holiday.

To report counterfeiting activities call 2545 6182.
