Child-abuse case reclassified as murder
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have reclassified a Wan Chai child abuse case as murder after the death of a three-month-old boy at Queen Mary Hospital.

In the evening on April 11, a 28-year-old non-ethnic Chinese man and his 23-year-old wife sent their son to Ruttonjee Hospital. Multiple unusual and suspicious injuries were found on his body.

Investigations showed the man had assaulted the baby and the couple were arrested for ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person.

The baby was later admitted to Queen Mary Hospital where he was certified dead at 12.51pm yesterday. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of his death.

The father was charged with one count of ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person and appeared at the Eastern Magistracy on April 13, while his wife was released on police bail pending further investigations.
