59 arrested, $7m in fake goods seized

Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested 59 people and seized $7 million worth of counterfeit items in a two-week operation at shopping hotspots and boundary control points.

 

They raided 25 retail shops, 10 stores and nine hawker stalls in Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok, arresting 23 men and 32 women, aged 18 to 78. They were shop proprietors and salespeople.

 

Officers also inspected 9,000 passengers at border checkpoints, seizing 65,000 counterfeit items worth $1.1 million, and arresting three men and a woman, aged 36 to 52.
