Judicial pay freeze approved
*

The Chief Executive-in-Council has accepted the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries & Conditions of Service to freeze the pay of judges and judicial officers for 2009-10.

This is the first time a judicial service pay adjustment has been determined under the new mechanism, separate from that of the civil service, as approved by the CE-in-Council in May 2008.

In coming up with its recommendation on judicial pay for 2009-10, the committee has adopted a balanced approach, taking into account a basket of factors as approved by the CE-in-Council, the principle of judicial independence and the position of the Judiciary.
