The Fire Services Department today pledged to achieve its target response time of 12 minutes in 92.5% of emergency ambulance calls, reiterating its commitment to providing a quality ambulance service.
Responding to Kwai Tsing District Councillors' concern over the reallocation of ambulance resources in Tsing Yi, the department said it reviews its response time to emergency calls in each district and flexibly re-deploys resources to meet service demand.
A recent review found ambulance demand in the northern New Territories has dramatically grown, whereas the target response time for Tsing Yi is higher than the performance pledge target.
The department has therefore considered flexibly re-deploying part of its resources at Tsing Yi Ambulance Depot to meet rising demand in the northern New Territories.
Almost 200 new ambulance posts have been created since 2007.
