Looking back: The Customs & Excise Department is holding a centennial exhibition at City Hall, featuring a host of historic photos. |

An exhibition featuring the Customs & Excise Department's historical photos and exhibits has opened at City Hall.
The exhibition, which runs until September 17, spotlights the department's significant stages of development over the last century.
Eight officers in uniforms of different periods brief visitors on the department's history, evolving from a humble tax collector to one of the most efficient customs services in the world.
The exhibition also showcases its six major service areas - revenue protection and collection, anti-narcotics investigation, control and enforcement, intellectual property rights protection, consumer protection and trade control. Another section features major Customs cases detected in recent years.
The free exhibition opens from 10am to 8pm on September 15 and 16, and from 10am to noon on September 17.
To celebrate the department's centenary, it is publishing a book, issuing a commemorative stamp and producing an eight-episode television documentary-drama series.
