453 tickets issued in road-safety blitz

During a two-day crackdown on Hong Kong Island, Police officers issued a total of 453 fixed-penalty tickets and 16 summonses to road users for violating traffic regulations.

 

They issued another 292 tickets for illegal parking and 161 for other traffic offences. Thirty-five pedestrians and 248 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

 

In the first seven months of this year, there were 1,633 traffic accidents involving casualties on Hong Kong Island - and  51.4% were attributed to pedestrians' negligence.
