55 arrested for illegal motor racing

Police arrested 55 drivers and summonsed or ticketed 5,565 people in a city-wide crackdown on illegal motor racing November 9 to 24.

 

During the period 4,387 speeding offences were detected, with 25 vehicles detained for examination. Fourteen were modified and five are awaiting examination.

 

Other offences include 100 drivers failing to comply with traffic signals, 74 seatbelt-related offences and 272 mobile phone offences.

 

One driver was summonsed for dangerous driving while 49 were summonsed for careless driving.

 

Police arrested 42 drivers for drink driving and 13 for other offences like being a wanted person and drug possession.
