Radio Television Hong Kong disc jockey Leung Ka-fai has admitted making $10,600 worth of false script-writing and research services payment claims.
Leung, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud today at Kowloon City Magistracy. Magistrate Peter Law adjourned sentencing to November 7, pending background and community service reports. Leung was granted $5,000 bail.
Leung presented RTHK Radio 2's Gameboy Roland programme. In July 2001 he told his sister Leung Wai-ka, a freelancer, to provide script-writing and research services for the radio show. But she could not use her name to make the claims.
He asked her to falsely represent to RTHK that the services were rendered by her, and that she was entitled to the payments. Leung Wai-ka also gave her bank account number to RTHK to receive payments.
Between September and November 2001 the defendant submitted three payment claims to RTHK effecting payments totalling $10,600 into his sister's account.
The prosecution today offered no evidence against Leung Wai-ka who was earlier charged for her role in the fraud.
