Anti-drink driving campaign launches
*
Hong Kong Police

Police will launch a city-wide campaign December 17 to January 1 to boost public awareness of road safety, with the focus on drink driving.

Police officers will invite the public to take voluntary breath tests and hand out publicity leaflets in bar areas to appeal to motorists not to drive after drinking. Strict enforcement action will be taken against offenders during the same period. Offenders will be liable to a maximum fine of $25,000, three years' jail and penalised for 10 driving-offence points; or possible disqualification from driving.

There were 13,435 traffic accidents in the first 11 months of this year, 258 cases less when compared with a year earlier. Among these cases, 85 involved drink driving.
