More than 500 students from 85 schools have joined a contest to learn the bounds of news reporting under the Control of Obscene & Indecent Articles Ordinance. Results will be announced in March.

The contest is part of the media education programme Point@Media, organised by the Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority and RTHK's eTVonline. Participants will produce news reports in electronic or print formats.

A panel comprising university professors, media workers, and representatives from TELA and RTHK will judge the entries on accuracy, technique and compliance with the ordinance.

Meanwhile, about 2,600 youngsters have partaken in a series of seminars and training programmes over the past two months to learn more about the ordinance. The activities aim to train young people to analyse unhealthy media content with a critical mind and educate them to stay away from obscene and indecent information.

Talks and workshops were also held. Experienced media practitioners shared their experiences and challenges as media workers while representatives from academia and social service organisations talked on media ethics and moral standards.
