A Mainland visitor has been jailed 12 months for using a false travel document to gain entry at Lo Wu checkpoint. He was identified by the Immigration Department's Face Recognition System, which has detected more than 550 double identity cases since its launch in December 2004.

Wang Desheng, 48, pleaded guilty at Sha Tin Magistracy today to one count of using a false travel document and one of making a false representation to an immigration assistant during arrival clearance. He was sentenced to 12 months jail on each charge, the sentences to run concurrently.

On November 3, Wang presented his Mainland Exit-entry Permit in the name of Lin Yushu for arrival clearance at Lo Wu checkpoint. But in a record check, his facial appearance hit a previous record under the identity of Wang Desheng. A Mainland identity card and a driving licence with the name of Wang Desheng was found in his luggage. He admitted he used the false travel document to try to enter Hong Kong for work.
