$19m in smuggled goods seized
*

Marine Police seized more than $19 million worth of suspected smuggled goods off Sha Tau Kok Hoi last night during an anti-smuggling operation.

At about 6.30pm, Police officers spotted two speedboats at Sha Tau Kok slipway and a light goods vehicle on the shore. About 10 people were seen loading goods from the van onto the speedboats.

The speedboats managed to escape while the men on shore fled before officers reached the van. Marine Police launches chased the speedboats which eventually disappeared in the Mainland waters.

A total of 23 boxes of fur with an estimated value of more than $19 million were found onboard the van.

The Customs & Excise Department will take over the case.
