Policeman jailed for perverting course of justice
*
ICAC

A Detective Police Constable has been jailed 18 months by the District Court for perverting the course of justice by inducing an assailant in a wounding case to make a false statement.

Chan Yat-chuen, 36, was found guilty of one count of doing acts tending and intended to pervert the course of justice.

In February 2004 the defendant helped investigate a wounding case in which the daughter of a Tai Po district councillor was attacked with corrosive acid. He and his team arrested Ken Chan for his alleged involvement.

Ken Chan admitted to the defendant that he was ordered by a Lam Ming-wing to carry out the attack. The defendant instructed him to concoct a false version of events to cover up Lam's involvement.
